In our continued effort to support our membership we are pleased to share that we will be partnering with the Food Bank FRESH Alberta project. The community minded nature of our members is second to none and the project partners, Calgary Food Bank, Edmonton’s Food Bank, Food Banks Alberta and Food Banks Canada, want to share their warmest THANK YOU!! Each month, food banks aim to provide the highest quality food possible in client hampers. Partners like you make that possible.

What is Food Bank FRESH? It is a new multi-level partnership in Alberta focused on supporting and expanding relationships to direct abundance or surplus high quality, foods to Alberta’s 90 food banks. This partnership is supported by Calgary Food Bank, Edmonton’s Food Bank, Food Banks Alberta and Food Banks Canada. This is a new and collaborative approach to food acquisition in Alberta and all partners agree that engaging with association partners, like the Alberta Food Processors Association (AFPA), will increase distribution and decrease food waste in our Province.

While many food producers have strong connections with their local food banks, we understand that sometimes the community food bank may be unable to handle your generous donations. AFPA’s relationship with AB Food Bank FRESH will provide our members with support moving abundance to food banks that are in need when your community food bank cannot accept your donation. This may be due to a variety of factors. Through open communication with the Food Bank FRESH partners we can ensure your donations are accepted and distributed efficiently. There continues to be a significant need in our province.

Food banks across Alberta thank all our members for their generosity within their communities. As we move into 2020, please continue to think of the food banks when you have any product to donate. The impact these donations have on the over 1 million annual Alberta food bank visitors is tremendous.
